Photo Shoot in Old Town

Oct 19, 2011 by

As a Realtor I need to use a photo head-shot in my marketing. Real Estate is the only business I know of where its customary to put your photo on your business card.

I’ve always felt like this was totally cheezy. My former broker at Re/Max convinced me to put my photo on my business card (I was still in my 20s at the time)  but I was never really comfortable with it and when those cards ran out I ordered new ones sans the photo.  When I moved to McEnearney it wasn’t really an issue because they don’t use photos on their cards, part of an overall classier marketing philosophy in my opinion.

Regardless, photos are a big part of our business and I do need a good photo of myself for web marketing and collateral. My last photo was taken 6 years ago and for 5 of those years I’ve been thinking about changing it.  My worst fear is being one of those Realtors who has a marketing photo of themselves where they are at least 10 if not 20 years younger than they are in real life. I think we’ve all seen this before.

Just like with properties you want to show the house in the best light with great photos but you don’t want the photos to lie because then people will be disappointed when they see it in real life.

About two weeks ago I did a whole photo shoot with Amanda Martin of Fillmore Martin Photography and I was blown away with the results. I am never really happy with photos of myself so I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw these.

Having your picture taken, alone, in Old Town is kind of awkward. With tourists and people driving by it can make you feel a little silly but Amanda’s warm personality and great sense of humor actually made it a pleasant if not enjoyable experience. She also does family and event photography.
