TJ Stones in Alexandria VA

TJ Stones opened last week and is located in the old Stardust Restaurant space on Montgomery near Old Town.  It features “modern American cuisine and libations from around the world.”

We decided to try it out on a Thursday night.  My husband had the special which was beef tenderloin medallions over a mixed orzo. He said it was delicious.  I had the strip steak salad with horseradish ranch dressing and it was perfectly cooked, the vegetables were fresh and the dressing was very light, not overwhelming. The service was friendly and prompt and the beer/wine list was adequate.

Overall for a casual quick dinner it was a positive dining experience. This is a family friendly restaurant but the acoustics aren’t quite right if your children are loud more vocal.  I think the bar here would be the way to go.  It draws a good crowd, features live music from 10pm to 1am Thursday through Saturday, has a number of flat screen TVs and plenty of table space. There were also some good small plate options on the  menu such as buttermilk friend chicken skewers and a chicken and brie quesadilla.
