Lickity Split Lunch at Resturant Eve

Restaurant Eve

Recently a good friend invited me to lunch at Restaurant Eve for my birthday. Although its located directly across the street from my office I never think of going there for lunch. I’ve been twice for dinner but not for lunch since they opened 5 or 6 years ago.

Unlike the bistro, the lounge offers what they call the “Lickity Split Menu” for $14.95 and it includes two menu items. I had the soup of the day which was a creamy corn soup,  the Irish BLT  made with Canadian bacon, tomato and house baked bread. It melted in my mouth. Their bread makes it. Really,  even a slice of bologna would be good between that butter soaked bread! We washed it down with a glass of Ken Forrester ‘Petite’ Chenin Blanc 2009 from South Africa.  Because this was a birthday celebration we ordered the “birthday cake” for desert. What arrived was an adorable mini round cake with and pink piped frosting. While we were eating Chef Armstrong passed by and asked us how everything was. It was a perfect lunch.

While we were there three different women came in at sat at the bar alone to have  lunch.  One was reading a book, another was on an ipad and the third was on her blackberry.  Two appeared to be in their mid to late 30s or 40s and were dressed in “work clothes” and the other was more casual. Then a twenty-something guy with long dark hair and some interesting  body art sat down next to us. He was reading a book as well (he knew the menu from memory so I suspect he may work there). I realized that we were the only people in the lounge who weren’t dining solo.

I’m usually hesitant to dine alone in a restaurant but if I were going to do it this would be the perfect place.  Its such a nice atmosphere and you are pretty much guaranteed a fantastic meal with great service.  I will be back to Eve for the Lickity Split Lunch. Perhaps I’ll go alone and report back about my experience.
