Historic Homes Tour Alexandria

Sep 10, 2011 by

70th Annual Historic Homes Tour, is coming to Alexandria on Saturday, September 24, 10:00am to 3:00pm.  Restaurateurs Cathal and Meshelle Armstrong are this year’s Honorary Homes Tour Chairs. They are the owners of Restaurant Eve, the Majestic, PX, Eamonn’s and Virtue Feed and Grain.  I love these guys (and their restaurants!)!

This year’s Tour will include Duvall’s Tavern which has a rich history, since it held a reception for George Washington in 1783.   Also on the tour are two beautifully restored and expanded 19th century homes with extensively renovated gardens.

All proceeds from this great event go to The Twig.  Over the past 30+ years, The Twig has donated over $2.5 million dollars to Inova Alexandria Hospital.  Their donations made projects like the infant security monitoring system, infusion treatment rooms for the Cancer Center, a dedicated stroke care unit, the Twig Pavilion, and nursing scholarships possible…  in other words, Alexandria is a better place to live because of this great organization!

They are currently raising money to create the new Twig Surgical Center with 24 patient care rooms! (It cost at least a million dollars to build – which has been GREAT for our Economy AND the Hospital!)  The Grand Opening of the center is October 24th at 5:30 pm.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for $30.00. To purchase tickets on line, visit www.thetwig.orgTickets may be purchased after September 6 at The Ramsay House Visitors Center, 221 King Street and The Twig Thrift Shop, 106, North Columbus Street.  On tour day, the ticket price is $35.00. Tickets may be purchased at the above locations, at the Old Presbyterian Meeting House, 316 South Royal Street, and at any of the tour homes marked by The Twig Pineapple.
