Farmer’s Markets on King Street

We are lucky to have two Farmer’s Markets on King Street!

The Alexandria Farmers’ Market
301 King Street

This market in Old Town gets super crowded, but it’s also much larger than the Del Ray Farmer’s Market, and has a ton more vendor’s. There’s also DELICIOUS croissants stuffed with goat cheese and pesto, flowers, fresh squeezed orange juice, pretty handmade quilts, and wonderful breads.  The Alexandria Farmer’s Market has been selling their products since 1753.  Old Town Alexandria’s Market Square is thought to be one of the nation’s oldest continually operating farmer’s markets.  This is the place that   George Washington sent his produce from Mount Vernon to.

Upper King Street Farmers’ Market
1806 King St.

One of the great things about Upper King Street Farmers’ Market is that it has small tables and places to sit and eat all around it.  This is a zero knicknack market…just stuff that grows or dies or gets eaten.   The market is open on Wednesday’s from 3-7 pm from May 4th through October 26th of this year.  It’s located at King Street Gardens Park,  next to the King Street Metro station.  It’s much smaller than the Alexandria Farmer’s Market.   Each year the Upper King’s Street Neighborhood Association and the City of Alexandria selects 10-12  local vendors for this market.  It’s a sustainable project for both the Neighborhood and the City.  Their goal is to put you in front of the local farmers, bakers and producers, and to give them an outlet for their goods.
