The Real Santa’s in Old Town
There’s only one real Santa and he’s in Old Town this year.

He’ll be making a special appearance in the Scottish Christmas Walk tomorrow and then he’ll be at 210 S. Union Street every Saturday and Sunday.
I’ve done the Santa photo-op with my girls 3 times. The first year, my oldest was almost 1 and we went to Landmark Mall because I’d heard there were no lines and while that was true the whole experience was a little weird.
In the end we were left with a photo where I had to dangle my daughter over Santa’s lap and then I was cropped out of it and it looked like Santa was holding her by the neck. Creative, but strange.
Last year something possessed me to go to Tyson’s and although we got there early during the day midweek we waited for an hour and when the big moment came my younger daughter would have nothing to do with it. I think I purchased the least expensive option of one small photo for $29.
This year there is no reason to fight the traffic because we have Santa right here in our downtown – Old Town Alexandria. The Old Town Boutique District brought him here from the North Pole. So far my sources tell me there has been no line for Santa in Old town.
Why not make a day of it? Take your kids to Union Street to see Santa and while your’re there support some of our local businesses as well. The boutiques are beautifully decorated for the holidays and many are offering special sales.
