New Year’s Resolutions

Dec 30, 2011 by

It’s been said that New Year’s Resolutions are like diets. Nobody sticks to them.  I think that’s because people set unrealistic expectations. Typically I start thinking about my resolutions in this last week of the year. In recent years I’ve tried to make my resolutions more along the lines of lifestyle changes rather than lofty goals. If its something I know I can accomplish, I’m more likely to stay on track.

My resolutions always include eating better, working out more, spending more time with family and friends and of course selling more homes.

Last year I decided to really look at my purchases and start choosing quality over quantity.   I vowed to buy nicer but fewer clothes for example. I don’t have walk-in closets and storage is at a minimum in my house so this makes sense for many reasons. I used to be afraid to buy pricier items in boutiques but when I really looked at my own spending patterns I found I was spending even more money on “disposable” clothing and home decor that I was periodically giving away to Goodwill.

It feels bad to give away things you spent money on and never used.

I think I did well with last year’s goal but there is still room for improvement 2012. My goal this year is to support as many businesses as possible and make thoughtful purchases.

This is small positive lifestyle change everyone can make.  It feels pretty good to be a part of this community and support our local business people.

Shopping locally can have a significant impact on our community, meaning more jobs and more people buying homes.

Happy New Year to all of my readers!

I wish you and your families a healthy, happy and prosperous 2012 !
