About
My name is Jessica Richardson and I am a nearly life-long resident of Alexandria City, where I currently live with my husband, our two daughters and our yellow lab.
My degree is in Journalism and Spanish and my first job after college was with The Washington Times doing international advertising projects in Central America and the Caribbean. It was 100 percent travel, a ton of writing and truly the adventure of a lifetime.
Next I worked as the International Marketing Liasion for MicroStrategy. After the dot com debacle I did some soul searching and decided it was time to pursue my long-time interest in real estate. So for the past twelve years I’ve been a full-time Realtor, first with Re/Max and now with McEnearney Associates. In our market I’ve seen the highs, the lows and everything in between.
I love living in Alexandria and the overall sense of community we have. I try to support as many local businesses as I can and my mission with this site is to help promote entrepreneurship, community and fun in and around Alexandria. Therefore I will be exploring the new businesses, revisiting the old and seeking out those off the beaten path. I will share my discoveries with you here.
This blog is a work in progress and I appreciate your feedback and comments. Don’t ever hesitate to call or email me if you have questions about things to do in the area, real estate advice or anything in general.

In the last 4 months I’ve learned WordPress, a little HTML and more social media tips than you can imagine. I started going at this blog with full force back in September. I had no plan or expectations. I hoped at least my friends would read it (sometimes). What has happened has truly amazed me. The emails and face-to-face feedback I’ve received from you has been awesome. I’ve met so many wonderful people – both business owners and local readers. We’ve been averaging close to 4000 unique...

It’s been said that New Year’s Resolutions are like diets. Nobody sticks to them. I think that’s because people set unrealistic expectations. Typically I start thinking about my resolutions in this last week of the year. In recent years I’ve tried to make my resolutions more along the lines of lifestyle changes rather than lofty goals. If its something I know I can accomplish, I’m more likely to stay on track. My resolutions always include eating better, working out more, spending more time with family and...

This Thanksgiving there are so many things to be thankful for. Family, friends and health top the list but I am also thankful to live in Alexandria. I am thankful that I live in a place where unemployment is relatively low, the real estate market is still strong and small businesses are able to succeed. This isn’t the case in many parts of the country. I am thankful to be a part of a community that feels like a small town. I’m grateful for the friends that I’ve met and that I live in an area where neighbors look out...
