Recently I toured Pulte’s model homes at Potomac Yard and found a feature I’m crazy about – the “guest suite.” There are several floorplans for sale, the larger of which include a detached garage with a finished upstairs space complete with a full bath, closet and deluxe kitchenette.
This one space solves several city living dilemmas. The most obvious is a place to house guests when they are in town. Imagine putting your in-laws in their own separate suite.
It would also be the ideal au pair suite or a home office. For the self-employed I believe there is a tax deduction for a home office with a separate entrance (but I’m not an accounting professional so please consult a CPA).
