I’ve always enjoyed going to concerts. My first concert was Jimmy Buffet at Merriweather Post Pavilion. In high school and college going to concerts was pretty much a given. When I first starting dating my husband his company had a suite at the Verizon Center and we saw everyone from the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Elton John and Third Eye Blind (yeah we were the oldest people at that one).
Sadly there is no more company suite and we just don’t get to as many concerts as I wish we could but living in Alexandria there are plenty of opportunities to hear good music at The Birchmere.
In case you don’t know, The Birchmere is an Alexandria institution that has had practically everyone on their marquis. Some headliners include Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, Emmylou Harris, Gordon Lightfoot, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Donovan, Lyle Lovett, Patty Lovelace, Vonda Shepard, and Joan Baez, Virginia Coalition, Eric Benet, Spin Doctors and more.
We recently went to The Birchmere with some friends to see Kelly Willis & Bruce Robison.
The seating is first come, first served, the menu is a wide variety of bar food with a good beer list and acceptable wine.
If you’re looking for something fun to do and you like music check out their website or join the email list. Tickets for popular shows go quickly.
