I love pizza and who doesn’t? Growing up here in the 80s there were less than a handful of options: Armand’s, Generous George’s, Dominos and Pizza Hut. I have some great memories of birthday parties at the Mt. Vernon Ice Skating Arena and pizza afterwards at Armand’s. In fact I drank my first beer upstairs at what used to be called The Penalty Box (several years after the skating parties of course). Since then Alexandria has made great strides in its offering of cuisine and pizza is no exception.
Here are some favorites:
Monterey’s
My personal favorite for delivery. Their crust is thin, chewy and non-greasy and they use just enough sauce. You can choose from gourmet specialty pizzas or build your own 703.683.9400
Red Rocks Pizza Napoletana
Very tasty pizza cooked in an authentic Italian wood fired oven. Specializing in Napoletan style pizza and small bath Italian wines

Pizzaria Paradisio
Delicious pizza baked in a wood fired stone oven. Consistently featured in local publications like Washington Post Magazine. This is their first location outside of DC. Kid friendly

Homemade Pizza Company
Love this place. This is a franchise but its a great concept. Specialty pizzas are the way to go and you can choose from regular or whole wheat crust. Pick up an unbaked piza and bake at home at your convenience. A real time saver when you are planning around houseguests or kids

Cafe Pizziolo
Offering a choice between New York style or Napolitan pizza, sandwiches, salads and gelatos. Kid friendly if your kids don’t mind a possible wait. I recommend dining in as their delivery service can be unpredictable

Delray Pizzeria
After working out some kinks this place has become a lively neighborhood gathering spot. They offer thin or deep dish pizza as well as a variety of salads, subs and other entree items. Very kid friendly

Faccia Luna
Of course how can I not mention this one, an Alexandria staple that has consistently good pizza with a crispy/chewy crust, sandwiches, salads and pastas
